Hi my name is Anna Kate! I would like to share information about my Girl Scout Gold Award Project. When babies are admitted to the NICU, parents are immediately confronted with a critical care environment. Often, admission to the NICU is unexpected and families feel unprepared. Babies and families need more resources during a NICU stay. Families may be separated at times due to responsibilities or caring for other children at home, work schedules, and the recovery of the mother from birth. Any resources provided in the NICU will be helpful in meeting the needs of the baby, including items that allow parents to feel closer to the baby and promote healthy development.

I will be donating knitted hats made by me and my team. I will collect books to donate to families that can be read to the babies during their stay and be taken home with them upon their departure. My team and I will also sew bags that parents can use to transport these items and reading materials provided by the hospital. I hope to donate at least 75 hats, books, and bags to the NICU at UNC Hospital.

Please view the video or watch the slideshow if you are interested in helping make the hats, or you can share it with someone who would like to help as well.

Thank you so much for your support!

Anna Kate
